So this time I’m serious
posted in The Daily Diet byToday I started on my new diet. Over the past few years I’ve made some well-intentioned, but apparently half-hearted, attempts to control my weight or even to lose a couple of pounds. I’ve followed some good advice - I gave up soda pop completely. I cut back on bread (way back). I made sure my “fat calories” were under 30% of my total. I felt better, noticeably, but didn’t really lose any weight.
My big problem is that I love carbs. I admit it. Yeah, I know that there’s a big difference in the type of carbs we eat - “good carbs” and “bad carbs”, complex vs. simple carbs - and I really do love pretty much every vegetable known to mankind (except for brussel sprouts) - but it’s the bad ones I really love. I love mexican food, which consists mostly of fats and carbs. Tortillas, beans, pork, cheese, sour cream. I tell myself that the tomato and lettuce garnish makes it “almost like eating a salad”, but deep in my heart I know better. I make mental trade-offs - like if I have a veggie wrap sandwich for lunch then it’s okay to have chips or french fries on the side, or if I’m having a bowl of vegetable soup then how much harm can a few dozen crackers do? So I guess I’ve never been that serious about it before.
But today is different. If you’ve read our “About” page then you’ll know I’m a devoted fan of Shaklee’s vitamins and nutritional supplements. So when they came out with a new weight loss product called Cinch (because it’s a “cinch” to lose weight on the plan - get it? ha ha! Pretty clever!) I decided to give it a try. The plan consists of meal replacement shakes, healthy snack bars, and a vitamin/mineral supplement called “Boost” to encourage your body to give up the weight. I’ve had one shake and a snack bar so far today. Both were yummy.
So stay tuned and I’ll report on how it goes…..
